United Arab Emirates: The UAE has suspended all flights operated by Iranian airlines to and from the country, effective September 24 and until further notice, as new US sanctions targeting Iran’s aviation sector affect regional air travel.
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced the suspension in a statement, stating that the decision was made in light of the US ban imposed on Iranian airlines from using airports in various countries around the world.
The GCAA stated that it would continue to update relevant authorities and the public on developments while air traffic between the UAE and Iran remains suspended. The authority also urged passengers to rely on official and authorised sources for information about flight operations.
Iranian media also reported the cancellation of flights operated by Iranian airlines to the UAE from September 24, citing Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization. The UAE is a major regional aviation hub and an important destination for Iranian passengers, with Dubai maintaining extensive commercial and community links with Iran.
The suspension follows a wider US campaign targeting Iran’s aviation sector. Iranian airlines were barred from neighbouring countries including the UAE and Oman on September 24 as the latest US sanctions began affecting companies in third countries that conduct business with Iran.
The measures are aimed at restricting services that support Iranian airlines, including access to airports and aviation-related services. The sanctions have increased pressure on Iran’s international air connections and created uncertainty for passengers travelling between Iran and neighbouring countries.
Iran Air and Mahan Air are among the main Iranian carriers operating international routes. The restrictions affect not only passenger services but also the wider aviation infrastructure required for flights, including landing, refuelling, aircraft servicing and passenger processing.
For passengers affected by the UAE suspension, flight availability and alternative travel arrangements will depend on individual airlines and developments in the regional aviation situation. The GCAA has not provided a date for the resumption of Iranian airline services, stating that the suspension will remain in place until further notice.
