Sao Paulo: A roof collapse at a four-story commercial building in central Sao Paulo, Brazil, left four people injured, prompting an emergency rescue operation, authorities confirmed.
According to a fire department spokesperson, around 35 people were inside the building when the incident occurred. All occupants were successfully rescued, while the four injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. All four are reported to be in stable condition.
Preliminary information released by the Sao Paulo state government indicated that approximately 20 people had initially been trapped inside a room in the building that remained intact following the collapse. Emergency response teams worked to ensure everyone was safely evacuated from the affected structure.

The incident occurred in the Bras neighbourhood, a traditional commercial district in Sao Paulo known for its numerous low-cost retail malls and busy shopping areas. Images broadcast by local media showed extensive damage to the four-story commercial property, with a significant portion of the structure behind the building’s front section collapsing. The front facade remained partially standing, while much of the building’s interior and rear sections gave way.
Earlier media reports suggested that dozens of people had been injured. However, the fire department later clarified that four people sustained injuries and that all occupants had been accounted for and rescued. Authorities have not yet provided further details about the cause of the collapse.
Emergency services remained involved in the response following the collapse, while authorities assessed the damage to the building and surrounding area. Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the structural failure and whether an investigation has been launched are awaited.
