Louisiana: A deadly shooting at the Mall of Louisiana has left one person dead and five others injured after a confrontation between two groups escalated into gunfire, authorities confirmed.
Police in Baton Rouge said the incident unfolded in the mall’s food court, where an argument between the groups quickly turned violent, resulting in multiple rounds being fired. Officials noted that several bystanders were caught in the crossfire.
Baton Rouge Police Chief Thomas Morse Jr remarked that, “Unfortunately there were some innocent people in the area who might have also caught some rounds.” Initially, authorities reported that up to ten individuals had been taken to hospital, with at least two requiring surgery. However, the number of injured was later revised to five.

Law enforcement moved swiftly following the shooting, arresting five individuals believed to be connected to the incident within hours. Police stressed that the attack does not appear to be random, describing it instead as a targeted disagreement between the two groups involved.
Baton Rouge Mayor Sid Edwards condemned the violence, warning those responsible that they would be held accountable. Meanwhile, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said he is working closely with law enforcement agencies and urged residents to avoid the area as investigations continue.
Jeff Landry added that he is praying for those affected and expressed gratitude for the rapid response by emergency services. Authorities have also appealed to the public for assistance, asking witnesses to come forward with any video footage that could help investigators piece together the sequence of events. The investigation remains ongoing.
