Egypt: At least 16 people have been killed and 28 others injured after a bus crashed on a road between the Red Sea towns of Dahab and Nuweiba in Egypt’s South Sinai governorate.

Egypt’s Ministry of Health said 20 ambulances were dispatched to the crash site to provide first aid and transport the injured to nearby medical facilities. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The incident occurred in an area popular with tourists from around the world. Dahab and Nuweiba are well-known destinations along Egypt’s Red Sea coast, attracting visitors for their beaches, diving and other recreational activities.

Road accidents remain a major safety concern in Egypt. Official figures show that nearly 6,000 people were killed in road crashes across the country in 2025. Reckless driving, speeding and poor road conditions are among the factors frequently associated with deadly accidents.

The latest crash comes weeks after another serious road accident in the north-eastern Ismailia governorate. Last month, a collision involving two lorries left 18 people dead and 30 others injured.

Authorities have yet to release further details about the victims or the circumstances that led to crash. Further updates are expected as emergency teams and investigators continue their work at the scene.

The latest tragedy has once again highlighted concerns over road safety in Egypt, where deadly traffic accidents continue to claim lives. Authorities are expected to investigate the crash to determine its cause and identify any factors that may have contributed to the incident, while efforts remain focused on treating those injured.
