Miami: Amazon stated on September 13 that it had paused operations with Miami-based cargo carrier 21 Air, which operated the Amazon-branded aircraft involved in a fatal crash at Miami International Airport.

The decision follows the crash of Prime Air Flight 7598 last week, which killed five people and is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said that the company had spent the days following the incident supporting the investigation and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash before deciding to suspend its operations with 21 Air, the operator of Flight 7598.

Amazon remarked that it would continue supporting the investigation and those affected by the accident.

The cargo aircraft overran a diagonal runway at Miami International Airport shortly before 2 p.m. EDT on September 6 and struck several vehicles on the ground, according to officials.

The aircraft was a 32-year-old Boeing 767-300 freighter. According to flight-tracking service Flightradar24, the plane had previously operated as a passenger aircraft for several airlines between 1994 and 2015.

The NTSB is investigating the circumstances of the crash. The agency noted that the evidence from the flight data recorder indicated that the pilots considered aborting the landing after the aircraft touched down.

The NTSB also reported that one of the pilots had warned that the aircraft was travelling too fast more than a minute before touchdown and the subsequent runway overrun.

21 Air noted that it remained focused on supporting the families and loved ones affected by the accident and was working closely with the NTSB, Amazon and other partners as the investigation continues.

The carrier also said it remained confident in its safety policies, procedures and training.
