Washington: US President Donald Trump has hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping for a high-profile state dinner at the White House, bringing together leading technology executives, billionaires, business figures and influential Washington personalities following a day of talks between the two leaders.
The dinner marked the conclusion of Xi’s visit to Washington, his first in more than a decade, and the second meeting between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies this year. The discussions focused on key areas of US-China relations, including trade, Taiwan, artificial intelligence and wider international issues.
During the dinner, Trump described his meeting with Xi as a ‘great meeting’ and highlighted what he called a strong personal relationship between the two leaders. In his toast, Trump acknowledged that the US and China represent different political systems but said the relationship between their peoples remains important.

Xi, in his remarks, referred to Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ agenda and stated that China remained committed to achieving ‘great national rejuvenation’. Earlier in the day, Trump showcased parts of the White House grounds and its latest developments to Xi, including the Marine One presidential helicopter and a newly constructed helipad.
Trump also invited some dinner guests to view the site of a new ballroom being built nearby, reflecting his continued focus on major construction and infrastructure projects in Washington. The guest list featured prominent figures from the global technology and business sectors, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault.
The dinner followed Trump’s personal welcome to Xi and his wife on Wednesday as they arrived at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington. The unusual gesture came ahead of Xi’s three-day visit, during which the two leaders are seeking to maintain dialogue despite continuing differences between Washington and Beijing.
