Chicago: US President Donald Trump will serve as the honorary Chairman of the 2026 Presidents Cup and is expected to attend the tournament at Medinah Country Club in Chicago from September 24 to 27.

Trump confirmed his participation in a statement, saying he accepted the honorary role at the request of the PGA Tour and expressed his anticipation for the tournament, which will feature the United States team against an international side.

The role is familiar to Trump, who also served as honorary chairman during the 2017 Presidents Cup at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey during his first presidential term. The US team won that contest 19-11.

Trump also attended the opening round of last year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black on Long Island.

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said Trump’s involvement continues the Presidents Cup tradition of engaging prominent world leaders. Rolapp added that the president’s participation would help raise the tournament’s international profile while supporting the PGA Tour’s aim of bringing people together through golf.

The US team will be led by Brandt Snedeker, while Australian Geoff Ogilvy will captain the international team when the two sides meet in Chicago next month.

Trump joins six former US presidents who have previously served as honorary chairman of the Presidents Cup: Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Gerald Ford.

The Presidents Cup has also featured international political figures in prominent roles. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau participated in the trophy presentation at the 2024 event in Royal Montreal, while former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and former South Korean President Park Geun-hye have also held roles connected to the tournament.
