Washington:  The Iran blockade has emerged as a central point of conflict between Washington and Tehran, with Donald Trump confirming that the United States will continue its naval restrictions on Iranian ports until a nuclear agreement is reached.

Trump indicated that he has no intention of lifting the blockade, despite suggestions that easing restrictions could help revive diplomatic talks. He described the blockade as highly effective in pressuring Iran’s leadership.

Iran has responded by insisting that lifting the siege is a precondition for resuming negotiations. Officials in Tehran have also warned that continued pressure could trigger a stronger response.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused the US of attempting to weaken Iran through economic pressure and internal division, pledging that the country would resist such efforts.

Reports suggest that Iran recently proposed a limited agreement that would involve reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for an end to the US blockade. However, Trump’s comments indicate that the proposal was rejected.

The standoff has already led to increased maritime tensions, with both sides reportedly seizing vessels in the region. The US has also redirected several ships as part of its enforcement efforts.

The Iran blockade has had a significant impact on global energy markets, pushing oil prices higher and contributing to rising fuel costs. Analysts warn that prolonged disruption could further strain supply chains and increase inflationary pressures.

Beyond the blockade, the two countries remain divided over Iran’s nuclear programme. Tehran maintains that it has the right to enrich uranium, while the US has called for a complete dismantling of its nuclear capabilities.

Diplomatic efforts have so far failed to break the deadlock, despite previous talks in Pakistan. The situation remains highly volatile, with both sides maintaining firm positions.

As tensions continue to rise, the future of negotiations remains uncertain, with the Iran blockade at the centre of a broader geopolitical confrontation.
