Guwahati, India: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been widely praised for his fearless and explosive batting after the 15-year-old prodigy delivered a stunning performance against Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian Premier League.
Opening for the Rajasthan Royals, Sooryavanshi made an immediate impact against the Mumbai Indians, taking on Bumrah, one of the world’s premier pacers, with remarkable confidence.
Facing him for the first time, the teenager launched a six over long-on and followed it up just a few deliveries later with another powerful shot over deep backward square leg.
Sooryavanshi raced to an electrifying 39 runs off just 14 balls, forming a commanding 80-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten on 77. Their efforts guided Rajasthan Royals to a 27-run victory in a rain-shortened 11-overs-a-side match in Guwahati.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya described the youngster’s performance as ‘amazing’ and ‘fascinating,’ highlighting his composure and attacking mindset against elite bowling.
The teenage batter also took on experienced New Zealand pacer Trent Boult, dispatching a yorker attempt into the stands with authority. His aggressive innings eventually came to an end when Tilak Varma pulled off a spectacular catch in the deep off Shardul Thakur.
Despite his impressive knock, Sooryavanshi showed visible frustration upon dismissal, reacting emotionally before walking back to the pavilion.

Jaiswal, who watched the innings unfold from the other end, praised his young teammate’s dedication and talent, noting that his fearless approach is both inspiring and motivating. He added that Sooryavanshi has a strong understanding of the game and does not require guidance, as he continues to play with confidence and freedom.
The young star has been on a meteoric rise. During the previous IPL season, he made headlines with a sensational 35-ball century, the second-fastest in the tournament’s history. He has carried that form into the current season with another explosive start, including a rapid half-century.
Former India captain Anil Kumble has also backed the youngster, suggesting he should be fast-tracked into the senior national team. At the youth level, Sooryavanshi has already etched his name into the record books.
Earlier this year, he smashed 175 runs off just 80 balls to lead India to victory over England in the Under-19 World Cup final, further cementing his status as one of cricket’s most exciting emerging talents.
