Glasgow: Firefighters have spent the night battling a major fire at a scrap yard in Glasgow, with emergency crews continuing operations on October 10 morning to bring the incident under control.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) stated that it received an alert at around 11:23 pm on October 9 after a fire broke out at a business on South Street in the Scotstoun area of the city. Nine fire engines, two high-reach vehicles and specialist resources were deployed to tackle the blaze. No casualties have been reported.
Six fire appliances and one high-reach vehicle remained at the scene, with firefighters continuing their efforts to make the area safe. The SFRS has urged residents in the surrounding area to take precautions against smoke exposure. People who can see or smell smoke have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

Motorists travelling through the area have also been asked to switch off their vehicle air conditioning and keep air vents closed if smoke is visible. Members of the public are being advised to avoid the affected area while emergency crews continue their operations. The fire service warned that the incident is likely to require an extended response.
An SFRS spokesperson remarked that the incident would be prolonged and thanked the local community for its understanding, patience and cooperation as firefighters worked to bring the situation under control.
Roads near the scene remained closed, while thick grey smoke continued to rise above the area. Authorities have urged the public to follow safety advice and avoid the vicinity until it is safe to return.
