Beijing: A deadly landslide in China has pushed the death toll higher in Gansu Province as heavy rains continue to affect large parts of the country, causing widespread damage and displacement.

The initial reports confirmed that 10 people have died after torrential rain struck Weiyuan County in Dingxi City on July 26. Authorities warned that the risk of further landslides remains high as the annual flood season continues.

The National Commission for Disaster Prevention, Reduction and Relief requests detailed investigations and risk assessments from Gansu provincial authorities. The directive aims to evaluate damage and strengthen response measures in affected areas.

Gansu authorities issued alerts for additional landslides, particularly in Dingxi. Continued rainfall increases instability in mountainous terrain. Officials urge vigilance as conditions remain unpredictable.

Weather warnings extend beyond Gansu, Beijing and Inner Mongolia post alerts as the national weather observatory forecasts heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms across a wide region. The system stretches from the southwest to the northeast.

In Sichuan, heavy and at times torrential rainfall continues across large areas. More than 881,000 residents relocated since the start of the annual flood season. The scale of displacement reflects the severity of flooding in the province.

The observatory also warns of another threat. Super Typhoon Dolphin moves towards East Asia from the western Pacific. The system is expected to begin affecting China’s southeast coastal regions from Wednesday. Officials indicate coastal areas could face strong winds and heavy rainfall.

The combination of landslides, flooding and approaching storms keeps emergency services on high alert. Authorities continue to monitor developments closely as weather systems remain active across multiple regions.
