London: Actor Bill Nighy has won the Best Host award at the 10th annual British Podcast Awards for his advice and lifestyle podcast Ill-Advised, beating fellow nominees including Louis Theroux, Katherine Ryan and Lily Allen.

The 76-year-old actor, known for films such as Love Actually, Living and the Underworld franchise, has gained recognition for his role as an agony uncle on the podcast. Organisers described Ill-Advised as an ‘irresistibly endearing series’ that combines Nighy’s dry wit with reflections on life, music and books.

Billed as a podcast for people who don’t get out much and can’t handle it when they do, Ill-Advised features Nighy offering listeners humorous, thoughtful advice while sharing his observations on everyday life.
The awards ceremony also recognised several other popular podcasts and hosts. Pete Wicks’ Man Made secured two awards, winning Best Interview Podcast and Best Health & Wellbeing Podcast for its exploration of modern masculinity.

Actor Sean Bean’s birdwatching series Get Birding also received two awards, taking home Best Lifestyle Podcast and Best Video Innovation. The overall Podcast of the Year award went to Hold or Fold, produced by the Prison Radio Association. The series, which examines problem gambling, also won Best Factual Podcast.
Meanwhile, YouTube veterans Dan and Phil received the Listeners’ Choice award for Hard Launch with Dan & Phil, following a public vote by podcast fans.

Other notable winners included Alan Carr and Lee Peart, who won Best Food & Drink Podcast for their comedy and wine series Bottoms Up!, while The Intelligence by The Economist was named Best Daily Podcast.

The British Podcast Awards also recognised podcasts across categories including arts and culture, comedy, business, documentary, education, entertainment, history, news and current affairs, parenting, sport, true crime and Welsh-language programming.
