London: More than 22,000 fans dressed as rapper Pitbull gathered at BST Hyde Park in London to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing bald caps.

A total of 22,141 attendees wore bald caps, paired with white shirts, black ties, and aviator sunglasses in tribute to the Cuban-American artist before his headline performance at the festival.

Accepting the Guinness World Records certificate, Pitbull said he was overwhelmed by the achievement. “I’m speechless. Who would have thought a first-generation Cuban would be record-breaking and record-making?” he said.

Ironically, the rapper, who is naturally bald, also had to wear a bald cap to qualify for the record. Guinness World Records adjudicator Will Munford explained that it was not a record for the “largest gathering of bald people”, so for Mr Worldwide (the rapper’s nickname) to be counted, he had to wear a bald cap to be in the record number.

To verify the attempt, organisers deployed around 400 volunteers to inspect participants at entry points and throughout the venue, while 42 official counters reviewed drone footage to confirm the final tally.

The record-breaking idea originated with fan and podcast host Jack Remmington, who posted a lighthearted TikTok video after Pitbull’s BST performance was announced. The clip suggested the festival’s large capacity could be enough to break the world record for people dressed like the singer.

The video quickly went viral, eventually leading to collaboration with Guinness World Records and support from Pitbull himself, who enthusiastically responded with his signature phrase, ‘Dale!’

The trend of fans dressing as Pitbull began in 2021, when a small number of concertgoers arrived sporting his signature look as a fun tribute. What started as a lighthearted gesture soon gained momentum through viral social media videos, evolving into a global fan tradition where many attendees now wear bald caps, sunglasses, white shirts, and black ties to his performances.

The Cuban-American rapper has fully embraced the craze, affectionately referring to his followers as the ‘Baldies.’ The singer also offered an official Mr Worldwide Kit and bald caps through his merchandise store, priced at £40 and £10, respectively. Both items have since sold out.

Many attendees exclaimed that the event was about more than setting a record. Fans described the concert as a celebration of nostalgia, fun, and community, with one attendee calling it ‘the least pretentious crowd’ they had ever experienced.

As Pitbull took the stage, he thanked the sea of lookalike fans, saying that it was “a blessing and an honour” to see the Baldies gathered together in London.
