Florida: Palm Beach International Airport has been renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, making Donald Trump the first sitting US president to have an airport named in his honor.

The name change took effect with new airport signage beginning to appear as part of a phased rebranding process expected to continue over the coming weeks. Airport officials also confirmed that the airport’s three-letter code will change from PBI to DJT on August 18.

Reacting to the announcement on Truth Social, President Trump described the recognition as a ‘great honor’ and said the airport’s planned renovation would be ‘spectacular.’ Trump thanked Palm Beach residents for supporting the measure and expressed confidence that the airport would become one of the world’s finest.

A Boeing 757 owned by the Trump Organization, commonly known as Trump Force One, became the first aircraft to arrive under the airport’s new name. The flight carried Eric Trump, who welcomed the decision, saying his father had made significant contributions to both Florida and the United States.

The renaming follows legislation signed earlier this year by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, authorizing the change. Officials estimate the project will cost up to $5.5 million, covering new signage, branding, and other infrastructure updates.

The Trump family frequently uses the airport when traveling to Mar-a-Lago, the President’s residence in Palm Beach. Earlier this year, a roadway connecting the airport to the estate was also renamed Donald J. Trump Boulevard.

The airport renaming comes along several tributes recognizing the President, including the recent designation of I-40 Bridge in East Tennessee as the Donald J. Trump Bridge and plans for commemorative US passports featuring his portrait as part of the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
