Around 800 exhibitors from 70 countries are expected to gather in Dortmund from 15 to 17 September 2026 for InterTabac, InterSupply and NUBIZ, a major international business event covering tobacco products, smoking accessories, manufacturing technologies and next-generation nicotine categories.

Dortmund is preparing to become a global meeting point for the tobacco and nicotine products industry as manufacturers, distributors, retailers, technology providers and supply-chain specialists arrive for three days of exhibitions, conferences and professional networking.

InterTabac 2026 will be held at Messe Dortmund alongside InterSupply and NUBIZ, creating a combined business platform covering established tobacco categories, production technologies, smoking accessories and newer nicotine product formats.

The organiser describes InterTabac as the world’s largest trade fair for tobacco products and smoking accessories. The event is expected to welcome approximately 14,500 trade visitors from around 80 countries, alongside around 800 exhibitors.

Access is restricted to verified industry professionals and is not open to the general public.

    Three specialised platforms in Dortmund

The September gathering will bring together three related but independently positioned trade exhibitions.

InterTabac will focus on conventional tobacco products and smoking accessories, including cigars, cigarillos, cigarettes, pipe tobacco, fine-cut tobacco, rolling products, water pipes and specialist retail equipment.

InterSupply will cover the industrial and manufacturing side of the market. Its exhibitors are expected to include suppliers of machinery, raw materials, packaging systems, measuring equipment, software, production technologies and traceability solutions.

NUBIZ will represent the expanding next-generation products sector, including vaping devices, electronic cigarettes, heated tobacco systems, nicotine pouches and oral nicotine products.

By bringing the three platforms together at one venue, Messe Dortmund aims to provide buyers and industry decision-makers with a broad view of the commercial and technological developments reshaping the international market.

A meeting place for International Trade

InterTabac has grown from a regional exhibition into an international business gathering with significant participation from outside Germany.

According to the organiser, approximately 80 per cent of participating suppliers are international, while almost half of the event’s trade visitors travel from countries outside Germany.

This global participation gives manufacturers and suppliers an opportunity to meet distributors, study potential markets, compare competing products and discuss commercial partnerships directly with decision-makers.

Retailers and wholesalers can also use the exhibition to assess product ranges, delivery capabilities, production quality and regulatory preparedness before entering discussions with suppliers.

For businesses operating across several jurisdictions, these face-to-face meetings can be particularly valuable. Tobacco, nicotine and vaping products are governed by different legal, taxation, packaging and import systems around the world.

A product legally manufactured or displayed in Germany may not automatically be approved for sale in Britain, the European Union, the Gulf region or other international markets.

    Industry innovation under scrutiny

Technology is becoming increasingly influential across the tobacco and nicotine products sector.

Traditional manufacturers are investing in automated production, improved packaging, digital traceability and more efficient supply-chain systems. At the same time, newer companies are introducing electronic devices, heated products and oral nicotine formats.

NUBIZ has been developed to provide a dedicated commercial space for these emerging categories.

The organiser presents the platform as a guide to the growing next-generation products market, bringing established companies and emerging businesses together with professional buyers and distributors.

However, descriptions such as “next-generation”, “alternative” and “smoke-free” are industry classifications. They should not be interpreted as evidence that a product is harmless, medically approved or free from health risks.

Nicotine is addictive, while tobacco and nicotine products remain subject to serious public-health concerns and extensive regulation.

Any statement suggesting that one product is safer or less harmful than another requires reliable scientific evidence and must comply with the advertising and consumer protection laws of the country in which the statement is published.

    Manufacturing moves into focus

InterSupply will provide a closer look at the production infrastructure behind tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, pipes, water pipes and related categories.

Its scope includes raw materials, filling technologies, weighing and measuring systems, packaging machinery, production software, documentation systems and traceability solutions.

These technologies are becoming increasingly important as manufacturers face growing demands for quality control, supply-chain transparency and regulatory compliance.

Packaging is also emerging as a major operational issue. Companies must respond to health-warning requirements, product identification standards, environmental expectations and restrictions on branding.

For production managers, engineers, packaging specialists and procurement professionals, InterSupply offers an opportunity to evaluate technologies before considering investment or supply agreements.

The presence of machinery or production systems at the event does not, in itself, establish that they meet the certification or regulatory requirements of every country. Buyers must independently verify technical standards and legal compliance.

A programme beyond the exhibition halls

InterTabac 2026 is also expected to include conferences, professional discussions, awards programmes and specialist networking events.

The programme will examine commercial trends, regulatory developments, changes in consumer markets and technological innovation.

Scheduled formats include PouchXchange, the InterTabac World Alternative Awards, professional networking sessions and the Cigar Culture Summit, which will take place immediately before the main exhibition.

These programmes are designed to create focused discussions around specific industry segments while giving companies further opportunities to meet buyers, associations and international partners.

The conference programme is also expected to address the regulations and market pressures affecting companies across different regions.

What the event means for British businesses

The Dortmund exhibition may be relevant to British importers, wholesalers, specialist retailers, logistics providers, packaging companies and manufacturing technology businesses.

For British companies considering international partnerships, the event provides an opportunity to review suppliers and examine how the global sector is responding to changing regulations and consumer behaviour.

Britain remains a highly regulated market for tobacco, vaping and nicotine products. Businesses must ensure that any product being considered for the British market complies with applicable rules covering registration, ingredients, packaging, health warnings, age restrictions, advertising and retail distribution.

Participation in InterTabac does not amount to approval by British regulators.

Companies should therefore complete independent product testing, legal reviews and regulatory due diligence before entering into supply, import or distribution agreements.

The same principle applies to international exhibitors seeking British commercial partners. Claims made during exhibitions or sales discussions should be supported by evidence and assessed against the legal standards of the intended market.

    Commercial opportunity alongside regulatory pressure

The tobacco and nicotine products industry continues to operate under intense regulatory and public-health scrutiny.

Governments are reviewing taxation, packaging rules, product standards, youth access controls and restrictions on promotion. Companies are simultaneously attempting to respond to technological change and shifting consumer preferences.

This creates a complex commercial environment.

For established businesses, the challenge is to maintain legal compliance while adapting production and distribution systems. For newer companies, the difficulty lies in entering markets where regulatory requirements can be expensive, complicated and subject to change.

InterTabac, InterSupply and NUBIZ bring many of these issues together within a professional trade environment.

The exhibitions may reveal where companies are investing, which product categories are attracting commercial attention and how manufacturers are preparing for future regulation.

    Trade access and opening hours

InterTabac 2026 will take place at Messe Dortmund from Tuesday, 15 September, to Thursday, 17 September 2026.

The exhibition will be open from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm on the first two days and from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on the final day.

The event is restricted to trade visitors. Applicants may be required to provide evidence demonstrating their connection to the relevant trade or industry.

International visitors who require visas are advised by the organiser to begin their travel preparations early, particularly because of the time required to process business and Schengen visa applications.

Dortmund prepares for a Global gathering

With approximately 800 exhibitors expected from 70 countries, the Dortmund event is positioned to offer a wide-ranging view of the tobacco and nicotine products industry.

Its combination of established categories, emerging products and manufacturing technologies reflects an industry undergoing substantial commercial and regulatory transformation.

For trade visitors, the event provides a place to assess suppliers, compare technologies, understand market movements and develop international business relationships.

For regulators, researchers and public-health observers, it may also provide an indication of how the industry is responding to stronger controls, technological change and continuing debate surrounding tobacco and nicotine consumption.

InterTabac 2026 will therefore be more than a product exhibition. It will be a closely watched international business gathering for an industry facing significant change, opportunity and scrutiny.

Editorial Note: This article covers a legally organised, adult-only industry event intended exclusively for tobacco trade professionals aged 18 and over. Britain Herald does not promote or encourage smoking, vaping, tobacco consumption or nicotine use. Tobacco and nicotine products carry health risks, and nicotine is addictive. Product availability and legality vary by jurisdiction.
