Ohio: At least 12 people were injured in a shooting near a popular community festival in Toledo, Ohio, prompting a major police investigation as authorities search for the suspects involved.

According to the Toledo Police Department, 10 victims are reported to be in stable condition, while two remain in critical condition following the incident. The shooting occurred at approximately 5:37 p.m. local time near the Old West End Festival, a well-known annual event celebrating one of the nation’s largest historic districts.

Deputy Police Chief Joe Heffernan said preliminary investigations suggest that two individuals exchanged gunfire and were likely targeting each other when multiple bystanders were caught in the violence.
Videos circulating on social media appear to show festivalgoers running for safety as numerous gunshots ring out. Authorities have not yet verified the footage.

Toledo has faced more adversity over the years than most cities, and our citizens always rally together and pull through. This will be no exception. What happened today at the @OldWestEnd Festival, sadly, has happened in too many American cities. But we should never shrug our…

The victims range in age from 16 to 61 years old. Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz told local media outlet that all of those injured are expected to survive. The Old West End Festival is a two-day community event featuring live music, food vendors, shopping, house tours, and family-friendly activities. Police said the shooting took place near the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Robinwood Avenue, an area identified on the festival map as a hub for music and food attractions.

Additional videos shared online show emergency responders assisting victims, with some being transported on stretchers while others received treatment at the scene. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine expressed concern over the incident, stating that summer festivals should remain safe spaces for families and communities. He extended prayers to those affected and voiced confidence that law enforcement authorities would identify and apprehend the suspects responsible.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have urged anyone with information to come forward. No arrests had been announced, and authorities have not yet released details regarding the suspects.

The incident adds to growing concerns over gun violence at public gatherings across the United States, where community events and festivals have increasingly become the backdrop for violent incidents.
