Washington: Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign has raised $540 million in just over a month, marking a significant fundraising milestone. This surge, largely driven by donations during the Democratic National Convention (DNC), highlights the growing momentum behind Harris’s bid to unseat Donald Trump.

The campaign reported that $82 million was raised during the DNC week, reflecting strong Democratic support. Campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon noted that the campaign experienced its “best fundraising hour since launch day” following Harris’s acceptance speech.
“This is the most ever raised by any presidential campaign in this time span,” Dillon stated. The campaign has seen consistent support since its launch, with $81 million collected within the first 24 hours after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race.
Mobilizing Key Constituencies
The Harris campaign also saw a significant increase in grassroots engagement, with nearly 200,000 volunteer shifts filled during the convention. A third of contributions came from first-time donors, with young voters and women making up a substantial portion of these new supporters.
“The Convention was a galvanizing moment for the Harris-Walz coalition,” Dillon remarked, referring to Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The campaign is focusing on mobilizing voters in battleground states like Georgia, where Harris and Walz are currently on a bus tour.
The Competitive Landscape
While the Harris campaign enjoys a fundraising advantage, the Trump campaign remains a strong contender. Trump’s team announced raising $138.7 million in July, with $327 million in cash on hand as of early August. However, this amount is overshadowed by Harris’s $540 million, suggesting a competitive edge for the Democrats.
As the Harris campaign builds on its momentum, the race for the White House intensifies, making this one of the most closely watched elections in recent history.
