United States: The Twitter headquarters’ recently installed large flashing X sign on its roof was taken down after neighbours complaints.

Over the weekend, the building inspectors launched an investigation in response to 24 complaints from concerned individuals regarding the structure atop Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco. The complaints raised significant concerns about the sign’s structural safety and its powerful illumination effects.

Officials reported that they were denied access to the roof to inspect the sign, as it appeared that the necessary permits and planning approvals had not been obtained for its installation. This lack of proper documentation raised further questions about the sign’s compliance with regulations and safety standards.

Mr. Elon Musk tweeted a bird’s-eye video of the sign on 29th July 2023, with the X emitting a piercing white light and appearing about two storeys high.

The Tesla CEO’s rebranding efforts have been the subject of controversy as he endeavours to emphasise the company’s name change from Twitter to X. His vision involves transforming X into an all-encompassing app catering to a wide spectrum of users’ online requirements, drawing inspiration from China’s popular WeChat, which provide multiple services for its users.

Mr. Musk purchased Twitter for a highly leveraged $44 billion in October 2022. Then he surprised everyone by announcing plans to rebrand Twitter, now the company is called X. Many criticisms popped up after its rebranding.

X’s CEO, Ms. Linda Yaccarino, tweeted that, “X is the future state of unlimited interactivity — centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking — creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities.”
