London: The hit Netflix series Wednesday makes a highly anticipated return nearly three years after its initial launch in November 2022, expanding the eerie and beloved Addams Family universe.

Season Two premiered with a star-studded purple carpet event in London, outside Westminster’s Central Hall and the Queen Elizabeth II Centre, where the cast and creators gathered to celebrate the show’s next chapter.

Jenna Ortega reprises her role as the gothic and sharp-witted Wednesday Addams, now returning to Nevermore Academy as an unwanted hero. This season, Wednesday once again takes on the role of supernatural sleuth, navigating new paranormal mysteries while also struggling with instability in her psychic powers.

Additionally, her family becomes more involved in her life: her younger brother, Pugsley, played by Isaac Ordonez, joins Nevermore, and their parents become a regular presence on campus.

“It’s a lot of pressure,” Ortega said, reflecting on her character’s challenges. She also serves as an executive producer this season, a role she said provided her with a sense of ‘freedom’ rather than control. Co-star Emma Myers, who plays Enid Sinclair, praised Ortega’s leadership on set, calling her the ‘cast spokesperson’ and someone who always advocated for the team.

Series creators and showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said that the second season is ‘bigger and better,’ with a deeper dive into the lives of familiar characters and multiple storylines involving the Addams Family. “There’s more of the Addams Family this season,” Gough noted, adding that audiences will explore more of the characters introduced in Season One.

Season Two introduces several new characters, including Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort, Nevermore Academy’s new principal, and Joanna Lumley as the Addams family matriarch, Grandmama Hester Frump. Pop icon Lady Gaga also makes a surprise guest appearance in Part Two, playing a teacher.

Showrunner Miles Millar shared that the heart of the new season lies in mother-daughter relationships. “It’s about mothers and daughters, it’s three generations of Addams women together. It’s also about learning to not be in control of everything, for Wednesday. And it’s really always about female friendship and female sisterhood,” Millar said.

Acclaimed filmmaker Tim Burton returns as one of the executive producers and directors, continuing his visual influence on the series. Wednesday Season Two will be released in two installments on Netflix. Part One will debut on August 6, followed by Part Two on September 3.
