London: The United States Embassy in London has issued a security alert advising American citizens in the United Kingdom to exercise heightened caution after the country raised its national threat level to ‘severe’.
In a statement released, the embassy urged US nationals to remain vigilant in public spaces and avoid crowded areas such as schools, churches, tourist sites, and major transportation hubs. It also recommended varying travel routes and schedules to reduce predictability and maintain a low profile.
The warning follows a decision by MI5, which confirmed that the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre had elevated the threat level from ‘substantial’ to ‘severe’. This marks the second-highest alert level, indicating that a terrorist attack is considered ‘highly likely’ within the next six months.
MI5 noted that the UK has been witnessing a steady rise in terrorist threats, driven by both Islamist extremism and extreme right-wing activity. The agency highlighted that individuals and small groups are increasingly active, with particular concern over threats targeting Jewish and Israeli communities amid ongoing tensions linked to the Middle East conflict.

The decision also comes in the wake of recent incidents, including the stabbing of two Jewish men in the Golders Green area of London earlier this week. Authorities clarified that while the attack contributed to concerns, the threat level increase was not based solely on that incident.
Recent weeks have seen a series of alarming developments, including attacks and threats directed at Jewish and American institutions. Among them, the Finchley Reform Synagogue in north London was targeted, along with an incident at the Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow.
This marks the second advisory issued by the US Embassy in recent weeks, reinforcing concerns over escalating security risks and urging citizens to stay alert as authorities continue to monitor the evolving threat landscape.
