Bang Kruai: A teacher was killed and four others were injured after a student opened fire at a school in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province, before taking his own life, according to police.

The shooting occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district, located just north of Bangkok. Authorities identified the attacker as a student. Lt. Col. Dechrapee Kongdee, Commander of the Nonthaburi Provincial Police, confirmed that the suspect died by suicide after the attack.

Among the injured were one teacher and three students, police said. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported the victims for medical treatment. The condition of the injured has not yet been officially disclosed.

An 18-year-old student who witnessed the incident said he initially mistook the sounds for firecrackers or loud banging. The student remarked that, “I didn’t think it was a gun at first. There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.”

Images shared by emergency personnel showed students evacuating the campus while ambulances and rescue teams responded outside the school. One person was seen on a stretcher receiving medical attention as emergency crews secured the area.

According to district authorities, Debsirin Nonthaburi School had around 3,100 students and 147 teachers during the 2025 academic year. The incident is the latest in a series of school-related shootings in Thailand. In February, a teacher was killed and a student was injured when a gunman opened fire at a school in Hat Yai district in southern Thailand.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind shooting. Authorities are also reviewing the sequence of events leading up to the attack as the community mourns the loss of a teacher and supports those injured.
