London: Moviegoers have been flocking to cinemas for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with the latest Marvel release earning praise from both critics and fans for its emotional storytelling and fresh direction.

The film marks Tom Holland’s fourth standalone outing as Peter Parker. Picking up after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the story follows Parker as he protects New York City while adjusting to a life where everyone, including his closest friends, has forgotten his identity.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film is his second Marvel Cinematic Universe project after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Holland reunites on screen with his wife Zendaya, who reprises her role as MJ. The cast also features Jon Bernthal as the Punisher in his first MCU feature film appearance, while Sadie Sink joins the franchise in a mystery role.

    Critical reviews

Critics have largely welcomed the film’s shift away from multiverse-driven spectacle toward a more character-focused narrative. Several reviewers praised Holland’s mature performance and the chemistry between him and Zendaya, describing the film as one of the strongest entries in his Spider-Man series.

Others highlighted its emotional depth, while some noted that familiar CGI-heavy action sequences and a complex plot occasionally slowed the pace. Fans leaving early screenings echoed much of that enthusiasm. Many described it as Holland’s best performance as Spider-Man, applauding the character’s growth across the franchise.

Long-time fans also praised the film’s emotional moments and its faithfulness to the comic books, while expressing hope that Holland continues in the iconic role. With enthusiastic audience reactions and positive reviews, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to perform strongly at the global box office.

Sony will be aiming to build on the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed nearly $1.9 billion worldwide following its 2021 release, boosted by the return of former Spider-Man stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

As fans continue to fill cinemas, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is proving to be more than just another superhero blockbuster. Its blend of emotional storytelling, familiar characters and action-packed moments has strengthened its appeal among both longtime Spider-Man followers and new audiences.
