Japan: Sony is reportedly working on a PlayStation 5 dubbed ‘Project Trinity or PS5 Pro’, which is expected to be released in time for the 2024 holiday season. The system’s specifications were leaked on a YouTube channel called ‘Moore’s Law is Dead.’
According to reports, the PS5 Pro could be released with a GPU that is up to three times faster than the current PS5. The PS5 Pro will present 45 percent quicker GPU rendering performance than the current version, 2-3x enhanced ray-tracing abilities, up to 4x in some points, and also 33.5 teraflops of computing power.
This console will be equipped with PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling (PSSR), a proprietary upscaling and antialiasing solution and back for resolutions up to 8K designed for software development kit (SDK) models. Third-party developers gained access to PS5 Pro development kits in January, while Sony’s first-party studios tested it in September.
Additionally, it is expected that test kits similar to the final product may be available in Spring 2024. This timeline aligns with previous reports suggesting that Sony is on track to release the PS5 Pro during the holiday season in 2024. Nevertheless, the release date may be subject to a shift due to the absence of first-party games released on PlayStation 5 this year.
Among the features of PS5 Pro are improved and stable frame rates at 4K resolution, a new performance mode for 8K resolution, and accelerated ray tracing. Sony strumbled with PS5 sales in recent years, and the release of ‘Pro’ models is expected to foster PS5’s sales growth, analysts said.
