Delhi: Chennai Super Kings strengthened their playoff hopes in the Indian Premier League with an impressive eight-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten knock from Sanju Samson.
Chasing a target of 156, Chennai faced an early challenge on a difficult batting surface where scoring freely was not easy. Samson began cautiously, focusing on building his innings after the early dismissals of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored just six, and Urvil Patel, who added 17 runs before departing.
Despite the pressure, Samson showed patience and composure during the opening stages of the chase. The opener initially scored only 16 runs from his first 19 deliveries but gradually shifted gears as he settled at the crease. His calculated approach allowed Chennai to remain in control while avoiding unnecessary risks.

As the innings progressed, Samson dominated the Delhi bowling attack with a series of aggressive strokes. He finished unbeaten on 87, striking seven fours and six sixes in a match-winning performance that guided CSK to victory with 15 balls remaining.
Samson also shared a crucial unbeaten partnership of 114 runs with Kartik Sharma, who played an important supporting role with a steady 41 from 31 balls. Their stand completely shifted the momentum in Chennai’s favour after the early wickets.
Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals struggled to build a substantial total despite several batters making starts. Sameer Rizvi top-scored with an unbeaten 40, while Tristan Stubbs contributed 38 runs.

However, none of the top-order batters managed to convert their innings into a big score, which ultimately proved costly.
Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad was the standout bowler for CSK, finishing with figures of 2-22 and controlling the middle overs effectively. England all-rounder Jamie Overton also chipped in with a wicket during an economical spell.
The victory keeps Chennai Super Kings firmly in contention for a playoff spot, while Delhi Capitals face increasing pressure as the tournament enters a crucial stage.
