Seoul: The workforce reduction at Samsung America has affected 739 roles in New Jersey as the company prepares to relocate operations and restructure its US headquarters functions.
Samsung Electronics America (SEA) has submitted a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) for its Englewood Cliffs site, outlining workforce changes tied to internal restructuring.
The entity oversees sales and marketing operations for Samsung Electronics across the United States, covering segments such as displays, smartphones, televisions, and home appliances.
The New Jersey unit has employed about 1,200 workers, forming a significant part of the company’s regional operations and workforce base. The reduction represents a significant portion of that workforce, reflecting the scale of the restructuring and its impact on local operations.
The adjustment has been tied to plans to shift headquarters operations to Texas by the end of the year. The move has been positioned as part of broader organisational restructuring within the consumer electronics division.
Samsung stated that the changes do not involve the semiconductor business. The company has clarified that the affected division focuses on consumer electronics activities. The restructuring has been aimed at consolidating operations in a new location. The transition has already been planned with a defined timeline.
Most employees impacted in New Jersey have been offered relocation opportunities as part of the company’s transition plan. The company has added that it would be inaccurate to categorise the workforce changes strictly as layoffs. However, the WARN notice has outlined the scale of roles affected by the transition.
