New Delhi: Punjab Kings have produced a sensational performance, completing a record T20 chase to defeat Delhi Capitals in a thrilling Indian Premier League encounter.

Chasing a massive target of 265, Punjab reached the total with seven balls to spare, setting a new benchmark for the highest successful T20 chase in cricket history. The win surpassed their previous record of chasing 262 in 2024.

Delhi had earlier posted a daunting 264-2, powered by a remarkable innings from KL Rahul, who scored an unbeaten 152 – the highest score by an Indian in IPL history. He was well supported by Nitish Rana, who added 91 in a record partnership.

Despite the strong total, Punjab’s response was explosive from the outset. Openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya laid the foundation with a rapid 126-run stand, putting Delhi under immediate pressure.

The T20 chase was then anchored by captain Shreyas Iyer, who remained unbeaten on 71, guiding Punjab to victory with a composed finish.

The match saw a brief interruption after Lungi Ngidi suffered an injury while attempting a catch. The game resumed after medical attention, with reports later confirming he was stable.

Punjab’s aggressive batting made the steep target look achievable, as they dominated the powerplay and maintained momentum throughout the innings.

The result has strengthened Punjab’s position at the top of the IPL table, highlighting their strong form this season. Meanwhile, Delhi were left reflecting on missed opportunities, including dropped catches at crucial moments.

The record T20 chase has set a new standard in the format, showcasing the evolving nature of high-scoring cricket and the growing dominance of aggressive batting.

The match will be remembered as one of the most thrilling encounters in IPL history, with Punjab’s remarkable chase redefining what is possible in T20 cricket.
