London: England striker Ivan Toney has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm in connection with an alleged incident at a nightclub in Soho, London, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The charge relates to an alleged assault that took place on December 6, 2025, at a nightclub on Wardour Street in central London. In a statement, the Metropolitan Police stated that, “Ivan Toney, 30, of Northampton, was charged on July 31, with assault causing actual bodily harm.”

The statement added that the footballer is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 24, 2026, to face the charge. Toney currently plays for Al-Ahli Saudi FC in the Saudi Pro League after completing a £53.8 million ($72.3 million) transfer from Brentford F.C. in 2024. The striker enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, scoring 42 goals and helping Al-Ahli secure a third-place finish in the league.

The 30-year-old also represented England national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He made two appearances during the tournament, featuring in England’s semifinal defeat to Argentina and the third-place playoff victory over France.

Toney began his professional career with Northampton Town F.C. before joining Newcastle United F.C. in 2015. After establishing himself in English football, he earned his first England senior cap in 2023, coming on as a substitute for Harry Kane in a match against Ukraine.

Despite the legal proceedings, Al-Ahli are set to begin their 2026-27 Saudi Pro League season on August 13 with an away fixture against Diriyah Club. It remains unclear whether the charge will affect Toney’s availability for the upcoming campaign.
