United States: More than 4,800 flights into and out of the US have been delayed, and nearly 30 of those flights were cancelled as a storm bringing rain and strong winds threatens holiday travel across the South and Northeast.

The southern and northeastern United States have been battered by rain and strong winds. During the upcoming holiday week, American airlines anticipates nearly 30 million passengers.

Major airports in Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York City, and Charlotte, North Carolina, were impacted by the bad weather.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), widespread rain across the eastern US may cause some travel disruptions into November 22.

In certain areas of New England, two to six inches of snow are possible. In comparison, separated accumulations of up to eight inches may occur at higher altitudes in Maine and New Hampshire, as per the statement.

In New York City, municipal agencies reportedly issued warnings for heavy rains and strong winds.

Just under 50 million people are expected to drive 50 miles (80 km) or more during this year’s holiday travel period, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). This would indicate an upbeat return to pre-pandemic levels and the third-highest travel numbers since AAA started tracking holiday travel in 2000.

Thanksgiving is one of the biggest national holidays in the United States. Ahead of Thanksgiving, firefighters and government organisations are cautioning against the risks associated with frying turkey. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission told Americans to “cook your turkey, not your home” and included a video demonstrating how the practice has caused fires.
