Najran: The Saudi-led coalition has reported that a reconnaissance helicopter crashed in southwestern Saudi Arabia’s Najran region due to a technical malfunction, killing both crew members.

The aircraft involved was an AH-6i reconnaissance helicopter. The crash occurred in an area under the jurisdiction of the Saudi National Guard Ministry.

The incident comes as tensions have increased along the Saudi-Yemen border. Najran faced attacks by Iran-aligned Houthi forces in recent weeks as fighting between the Saudi-led coalition and the Yemen-based group has intensified.

The conflict in Yemen also become another front in the wider US-led war with Iran. The latest developments also added to security concerns across the region, particularly in areas close to the Saudi-Yemen border.

Saudi Apache helicopter was shot down while conducting operations against Houthi positions along the border. The claim concerned an Apache helicopter rather than the AH-6i reconnaissance aircraft reported to have crashed in Najran.

The available statement on the Najran crash attributed the incident to a technical malfunction. It did not report hostile fire as the cause of the AH-6i helicopter’s crash.

The deaths of both crew members mark a fatal incident involving the coalition’s reconnaissance operations. Further details about the circumstances of the crash were not provided in the statement.

The developments come as escalating hostilities involving the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis. The situation along the border remains a significant part of the wider conflict, with military activity and claims from both sides continuing to draw attention to security risks in the region.
