United States: Austin Butler, a young “Elvis” star, and Michelle Yeoh, a veteran actor, won the top prizes for movies at the Golden Globes ceremony as Hollywood celebrated a program that had been banned from television due to diversity and ethics issues.

Butler, 31, who played rock music great Elvis Presley in the film, won the award for best actor.

“I’m in this room with all my heroes, I can’t believe I’m here,” Butler noted. “Brad, I love you. When I was 12 years old, Quentin, I printed out the Pulp Fiction script when I was 12 years old,” the 31-year-old remarked.

Yeoh took the stage when her name was called and said she was “just going to stand here and take this all in.” Yeoh was honoured for her leading role in the dimension-hopping action film “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

In the dark Irish comedy “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Colin Farrell won lead actor in a movie musical or comedy for his portrayal of Padraic Suilleabhain, a man attempting to mend a ruptured friendship.

Celebrities and broadcaster NBC withdrew from the 2022 Golden Globes due to ethical issues at the association that bestows the awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). This year’s ceremony, which gives attention to winners and nominees and frequently improves their chances at the Oscars, was supported by many of the top movie and TV stars due to changes made by the HFPA, a larger, more diverse membership, and other initiatives.
