London, UK: Mr. Stephen Greif, who starred in Blake’s 7 and The Crown, passed away at the age of 78. Mr. Greif had a long career in stage and film. He also made appearances in Doctors, Coronation Street, and EastEnders.
His representatives at Michelle Braidman Associates stated that, “With great sadness, we announce the death of our wonderful client Stephen Greif.”
“His extensive career included numerous roles on screen and stage, including at the National Theatre, RSC and in the West End. We will miss him dearly and our thoughts are with his family and friends,” the representatives remarked.
The Hertfordshire-born actor attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts before joining the National Theatre Company at London’s Old Vic and Southbank theatres. The actor appeared in a number of stage plays during the 1960s and 1970s before transitioning to the big screen to play Travis in Blake’s 7.
Mr. Grief appeared in it from 1978 to 1981 along with Mr. Gareth Thomas, Mr. Paul Darrow, and Ms. Sally Knyvette. Additionally, he played Commander John Shepherd in Shoot On Sight and Signor Donato in Casanova in three seasons of Citizen Smith.
In 2020, the actor portrayed Speaker of the House Sir Bernard Weatherill in the fourth series of The Crown. Tributes have poured in for the actor from former colleagues, friends and fans of his work. Dalek operator and voice actor Mr. Barnaby Edwards said he was “very saddened to hear that Stephen Greif has left us.”
