Brasilia, Brazil: The Liberal Party of Brazil’s outgoing President, Mr. Jair Bolsonaro, has challenged some votes from the election in October, in which Mr. Bolsonaro barely lost to Mr. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, a leftist.

The Party requested the Electoral Court to invalidate votes from certain voting machines, which it claims were compromised during the second round of election.

Mr. Bolsonaro’s Party has been given 24 hours by the Court to revise their petition to add the results of the first voting round. The Party has not presented any proof for its allegation of machine errors.

The Superior Electoral Court has already confirmed that Lula won with 50.9 percent of the vote against Mr. Bolsonaro’s 49.1 percent, thus the challenge may not go very far.

Mr. Bolsonaro, while not conceding defeat, has given the go-ahead for Presidential transition. He has remained out of the public eye since losing the election on 30th October.

According to the Party, Mr. Bolsonaro would be re-elected “with 51.05 percent of the legal votes, versus 48.95 percent for Lula” if the votes in question were discounted.

No more procrastination, irresponsibility, insults to institutions and democracy. The election was decided in the vote and Brazil needs peace to build a better future.

Ms. Gleisi Hoffmann, the President of Lula’s Workers Party , declared.

Mr. Bolsonaro’s term will end when Mr. Lula is inaugurated as President on January 1st.

Lula, who previously served as President from 2003 to 2010, is now 77 and will become the oldest person to hold the office.
