California, US: Microblogging site, Twitter has informed its staff that the company’s office buildings will be temporarily closed immediately. The employees had received a message that the offices will reopen on November 21st. The reason for the move is unknown.

The statement comes as there are rumors that several employees are leaving after the new owner, Mr. Elon Musk, asks them to commit to “long hours at high intensity” or quit.

The message to the employers states that, “Please comply with company policy by refraining from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press, or elsewhere.”

Mr. Musk informed Twitter employees that if they didn’t agree to work “long hours at high intensity,” they would have to leave the organization. The company’s new owner requested employees’ consent in an email to the staff.

According to Twitter’s CEO, anyone who didn’t sign up the contract would receive three months’ worth of severance money. Earlier this month, the company said it would be laying off almost 50 percent of its workers. The news that Twitter had temporarily closed its offices recently coincided with indications that several employees had already left in protest at Mr. Musk’s new contract terms.

Employees have begun tweeting to announce their departure from the company using the hashtag #LoveWhereYouWorked and a saluting emoji.

One former Twitter employee pointed out that, “I think when the dust clears today, there’s probably going to be less than 2,000 people left.”

The Twitter staff continued by stating that, “The manager of that team, his manager, was terminated. And then that manager’s manager was terminated. The person above was one of the execs terminated on the first day. So there’s nobody left in that chain of command.”

Around 8,000 people worked on Twitter before Mr. Elon Musk took over. Additionally, the company was said to have employed thousands of contract workers, most of whom were believed to have been laid off.

Another Twitter staff claimed that, “I didn’t want to work for someone who threatened us over email multiple times about only ‘exceptional tweeps should work here’ when I was already working 60-70 hours weekly.”

How do you make a small fortune in social media?

Start out with a large one.

    — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 18, 2022

The world’s wealthiest man became Twitter’s CEO last month after purchasing the company for $44 billion (£37 billion).

Following the announcement that Twitter’s offices were closed, referencing the problems to his difficulties since purchasing the company, Mr. Musk tweeted the following, “How do you make a small fortune in social media? Start with a large one.”
