London: Unilever, the consumer goods company behind Dove soap and Hellmann’s mayonnaise, reported stronger-than-expected third-quarter underlying sales growth on October 28, supported by resilient demand and higher prices across key markets.
The company recorded underlying sales growth of 5.2 percent for the three months to September, exceeding analysts’ expectations of 4.8 percent, according to a company-compiled consensus. The results indicate continued momentum despite rising commodity costs and pressure on consumer spending.
Emerging markets remained a major growth driver, with broad-based gains led by India and continued strength in Latin America and Southeast Asia, Chief Executive Officer Fernando Fernandez said in a statement. Performance in developed markets was more challenging because of a tougher comparison with the previous year and weaker results in the foods business.

Unilever has increased prices to counter rising energy and transportation expenses associated with the Iran war. The company has also been simplifying its operations under Fernandez, who was appointed chief executive in 2025, with a greater focus on beauty and personal care brands.
Despite cost pressures, Unilever maintained its 2026 sales growth and profit margin forecasts. The company expects underlying sales growth of around 5 percent in the second half of the year, signalling confidence in demand across its major markets.
The latest results will be closely watched by investors as consumer goods companies navigate changing purchasing habits, higher operating costs and uneven demand across regions. Unilever’s performance in emerging markets, particularly India, remains an important factor in its growth outlook as the company continues to adjust its portfolio and pricing strategy.
