The United States administration has declared a new $600 million arms package to support the Ukrainian military’s fight against Russia, as the US offers more weapons to fuel Kyiv’s successful counteroffensive in the country’s east.

The package will include the same types of ammunition and equipment that have helped Ukrainian forces repel Russian forces in the east and south.

Mr. Joe Biden, the President of United States, approved the aid using his presidential drawdown authority, which allows the president to transfer excess weapons from US stockpiles. The White House notes that the money will be used for military education and training.

Washington has sent $15.1 billion in security aid to the Kyiv government since the Russian invasion.

“To meet Ukraine’s evolving battlefield requirements, the United States will continue to work with its Allies and partners to provide Ukraine with key capabilities,” the Pentagon, headquarters of the US department of defense, shared.

With nearly $2.9 billion in aid and financial aid announced last week and more than $3 billion announced in late August, the decision to move quickly on new aid underscores, the U.S. intent to ensure Ukraine can sustain its stunning counterattack which was launched earlier this month.

“With admirable grit and determination, the people of Ukraine are defending their homeland and fighting for their future, the capabilities we are delivering are carefully calibrated to make the most difference on the battlefield and strengthen Ukraine‘s hand at the negotiating table when the time is right,” US secretary of state Mr.  Antony Blinken observed in a statement.
