Tokyo: Kazuyoshi Miura has scored a competitive goal at the age of 59, marking a rare milestone in professional football history.

The veteran striker added a goal as Fukushima United defeated Iwaki Furukawa 7-0 in the Emperor’s Cup. The result ensured progression in the domestic competition while highlighting Miura’s enduring presence in the sport.

Miura scored in the 52nd minute and the goal extended the lead to 5-0. The move followed a well-timed run into the penalty area. A teammate delivered a precise cutback and Miura completed the action with a first-time finish. The strike came at 59 years and 149 days during the competitive Emperor’s Cup match.

Celebrations followed across the pitch and bench, the moment reflected both achievement and admiration for a career spanning decades. Miura was substituted three minutes after scoring and the substitution came shortly after the goal as the match remained firmly under control.

The goal marked the first competitive strike since November 2022. The previous goal came while playing for Suzuka Point Getters, now known as Atletico Suzuka. That appearance was recorded during a Japan Football League fixture against FC Osaka.

Miura continues to extend a record-breaking career and is preparing for a remarkable 42nd professional season at the age of 59. Fukushima United confirmed an extended loan deal until June 2027 following a move from Yokohama FC in December, after making several appearances in the current campaign.

Appearances during the 2026 campaign have remained limited and Miura has made six appearances in a shortened season. Despite reduced game time, the latest goal has reinforced lasting impact and physical endurance.

Changes in Japan’s football calendar are set to reshape competition structure. The shift from a spring-to-autumn schedule to an autumn-to-spring format will see Miura continue playing into the 60s. The development adds another chapter to one of football’s longest careers.
