New York: Rockstar Games has announced another delay for its highly anticipated title, Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), pushing its release to 19 November 2026. Originally slated for May 2026, the game had already been postponed once before from its earlier autumn 2025 launch window.
In a statement, the developer explained that the additional months are necessary to complete the game with the level of polish fans ‘expect and deserve.’
Rockstar also apologized for the prolonged wait and thanked the gaming community for its continued patience, expressing excitement for players to explore Leonida, a fictional US state inspired by Florida, and a reimagined, modern-day version of Vice City.
Hi everyone,
Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.
We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and… pic.twitter.com/yLX9KIiDzX

The delay marks another chapter in Rockstar’s long history of perfectionism and development setbacks. The studio’s previous blockbuster, Red Dead Redemption 2, was also postponed by nearly a year before its eventual release.
Industry observers note that rising expectations for realism and scope, combined with escalating production costs, have made publishers increasingly cautious about releasing incomplete or unpolished titles.
The upcoming GTA 6 follows the immense success of Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5), which debuted in 2013 and remains the second-best-selling video game of all time. Despite being more than a decade old, GTA 5 continues to maintain a massive fan base, largely driven by its ever-evolving GTA Online mode.
The latest announcement comes amid controversy at Rockstar’s UK studios. On October 30, the company laid off 31 employees, a move condemned by the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), which represents video game industry professionals.

The union accused Rockstar of dismissing staff to discourage unionization efforts. In protest, IWGB members organized demonstrations outside Rockstar’s offices in Edinburgh and London, carrying banners and lighting red flares.
Meanwhile, Rockstar has remained largely silent about GTA 6’s details, releasing only two official trailers so far. The second trailer, unveiled in May 2025, amassed more than 100 million views, giving fans a deeper look into the storyline of protagonists Jason and Lucia, a criminal couple navigating life in Leonida.
The preview also teased new characters, locations, and gameplay elements, fueling excitement for what is expected to be one of the most ambitious titles in gaming history.
When it finally arrives, Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is anticipated to be among the most expensive video games ever produced, but analysts predict it will break multiple sales records upon launch. Whether it will ultimately meet the immense expectations surrounding it, however, remains to be seen.
