Tver, Russia: The governor of Russia’s Tver region has ordered an emergency evacuation following a drone attack believed to be orchestrated by Ukraine. The attack targeted key infrastructure in the region, causing significant disruption and prompting immediate action from local authorities.

The Tver region, situated northwest of Moscow and far from the conflict’s central areas, was caught off guard by this escalation. The drone strike resulted in considerable damage and raised alarms about the potential for increased hostilities. Governor Igor Rudenya issued a statement emphasizing the need for residents to ‘localise’ to ensure their safety and minimize risks.

Igor Rudenya reported that emergency services in the town of Toropets are working to contain a fire ignited by debris from the drone attack. No provided information on potential casualties.

Authorities have not disclosed the number of evacuees. Russia’s state media announced that regional schools and kindergartens will remain closed. Additionally, overnight attacks were reported in the Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, and Smolensk regions, with local officials stating that nearly 50 drones and two missiles were intercepted. Ukraine has yet to comment on these incidents.

The incident underscores the broader trend of heightened conflict and increased use of drones in the ongoing struggle between Russia and Ukraine. Both nations have ramped up military activities, with drone attacks becoming a more common element of their confrontations.

International observers are closely watching the situation, as it represents a significant development in the conflict. The evacuation of Tver’s residents reflects the urgent need to address the immediate threats posed by the ongoing hostilities and ensure the safety of those affected.
