United Kingdom: Buckingham Palace has revealed that King Charles III is “so proud of Catherine for her courage” in discussing her cancer treatment. A brief statement remarked that the King, who has been afflicted with cancer himself, is “closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law.”
In a video posted on YouTube on Friday, the princess called her diagnosis a “huge shock”. Since late February, she has been receiving preventive chemotherapy. The princess said that although her family had experienced an “incredibly tough couple of months,” she was “well and getting stronger every day.”
Her announcement coincides with King Charles’s six-week hiatus from public appearances due to his cancer diagnosis.
At the same time, the two received short treatment at the London Clinic, a private hospital. There, in January, Catherine was scheduled for an abdominal operation, while the King was hospitalized for a “corrective procedure” related to an enlarged prostate.
According to Buckingham Palace, “His Majesty is’so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did’.”
Prior to Friday’s statement, King Charles and Queen Camilla were told of the princess’s condition. They declared that they will “continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time.” Although the form of cancer Catherine has been diagnosed with has not been made public, Kensington Palace maintains that it is optimistic about her full recovery.
Friday’s statement from UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described Catherine’s actions as “tremendous bravery” in the face of “intense scrutiny.”
“When it comes to matters of health, like everyone else, she must be afforded the privacy to focus on her treatment and be with her loving family,” Sunak added.
