United Kingdom: Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles has been diagnosed with a type of cancer.
The palace claimed that the illness was found when the monarch was receiving hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate. Although the King’s illness is not yet known, the palace has stated that prostate cancer is not the cause.
The “separate issue of concern” was reportedly noticed during the monarch’s recent benign prostate enlargement procedure. A form of cancer has been identified through additional diagnostic testing.
“No further details are being shared at this stage, but His Majesty is receiving expert care and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible,” a palace spokesperson said.
The King left Sandringham on Monday and arrived back in London to begin his outpatient treatment, which eliminates the need for him to stay in the hospital.
It is expected that the King will continue to process official documents and have his weekly meeting with the prime minister despite his medical condition.
The palace has acknowledged that “a number” of his forthcoming public appearances will be rescheduled or cancelled.
Following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022, Charles took the throne.
In a press release issued earlier on Monday, Kensington Palace stated that Prince William, the heir apparent, will be going back to his official responsibilities later this week. He had taken time off to assist his wife in her recuperation from abdominal surgery.
William and his father have regular communication, a person close to the Prince of Wales has revealed.
