Dubai, UAE: The UK Prime Minister, Mr. Rishi Sunak, has stated that King Charles will give a “call to arms” in his Cop28 climate summit opening statement.

“We’ve got our head of state there, delivering a call to arms in the opening statement, which speaks volumes about the respect that he’s got on this issue around the world,” Mr. Sunak said.

“We’ve got the head of government there with me, and we’ve got our chief diplomat there and the foreign secretary. There are very few countries that will be able to say what I’ve just said,” the Prime Minister added.

One day after the conference began with dire warnings about global warming, the king is anticipated to call for “genuine transformational action.” Charles, a climate enthusiast, was not allowed to attend Cop27 last year.

The spokesperson for the prime minister had previously stated that the purpose of Sunak’s and the king’s Cop28 diaries was to “complement not duplicate.”

For the first time, countries will evaluate this goal’s progress at Cop28 in a process known as the “global stocktake,” as per the statement.

“We are living through climate collapse in real time,” the UN chief said,Mr. António Guterres, confirming that 2023 will be the hottest year on record.

The Earth is warming due to greenhouse gas emissions, which need to be nearly halved in the next seven years, according to scientists.

When Rishi Sunak addressed broadcasters earlier this morning, he was questioned about whether his domestic reduction of climate ambition makes it more difficult to pressure other nations to take greater action.

“We have got an incredible track record in decarbonising in the UK, faster than any other major economy. We should be really proud of that,” the PM replied.
