United States: Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” concert movie has reportedly achieved a milestone exceeding $250 million in gross sales at the global box office.
This surpasses the film’s $15 million budget and puts it in the running to become the most successful concert film ever.
The movie’s distributor, AMC Theatres, revealed that Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has sold $250 million worth of tickets globally, placing it in the top 20 biggest movies of 2023.
After Thanksgiving weekend, Eras Tour had made $178.2 million in North America and $71.8 million abroad.
It is presently ranked No. 19 on the worldwide chart, trailing only The Flash ($270.1 million) and The Nun II ($268 million).
Swift and her team self-financed the $15 million film, which has been playing in theaters from Thursday to Sunday for seven weekends.
Amidst the slowdown in content production from traditional Hollywood studios as a result of WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the movie has been a blessing for theater owners. Swift broke with tradition by deciding to partner with AMC, versus a studio, in bringing her secret pic to the big screen.
On November 28, 2023, Eras Tour will be back in theaters concurrently with the release of AMC’s second movie, a Beyoncé concert picture called Renaissance.
Thousands of theaters across North America will be showing Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé by December 1, 2023. Based on tracking, its domestic opening is expected to be between $20 and $25 million, which is less than the $92.8 million earned by the Eras Tour.
