Beijing: China has stated that climate talks with the United States have resulted in positive. This comes after the world’s two largest greenhouse gas emitters met ahead of the COP28 summit in Dubai.

Beijing’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment pointed out that the two sides had “engaged in a comprehensive, in-depth exchange of views and achieved positive results on developing bilateral climate change cooperation and action”.

The ministry also added that Beijing and Washington agreed to “jointly push for the success of the COP28 conference.” China, the largest emitter of greenhouse gases globally, has pledged to peak emissions of carbon dioxide by 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2060.

At the end of the month, countries will come together in the UAE for the COP28 summit, which aims to build consensus for limiting global warming.

In an effort to restart high-level communication, Washington sent a number of top officials to Beijing this year. Chinese Vice President Mr. Han Zheng said that his country was open to talks with the US at “all levels”.

The upcoming Biden-Xi talks have not been officially confirmed by China or the US. According to sources, the two sides had made arrangements to hold the meeting on November 15 on the sidelines of next week’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, which the US is hosting.

China’s foreign ministry remarked that the “road to San Francisco is not smooth, and we cannot be on autopilot,” in response to a question on whether the summit will take place.
