United States: Mr. Elon Musk has posted on Twitter that the social media platform will be changing its logo to an “X” and “all the birds will be disappearing from the platform.”
In a series of tweets shared on his official account, Mr. Musk stated that “soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.” In the same series, the former Twitter CEO posted “Paint It Black,” before launching a user poll to “Change default platform colour to black.”
“If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make it go live worldwide tomorrow,” Mr. Musk continued.
“Like this but X,” the Twitter owner added above an illustration of the iconic bird silhouette against a black background. Under Mr. Musk’s tenure, the company has changed its business name to X Corp., reflecting the billionaire’s vision to create a “super app” like China’s WeChat.
According to Twitter’s website, its logo, depicting a blue bird, is its “most recognisable asset.”
The bird was temporarily replaced in April by Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog, which significantly contributed to the rise in the meme coin’s market value.
The social media platform was widely criticised by users and marketing professionals when Mr. Musk announced early this month that Twitter would limit how many tweets a day various accounts could read.
In addition, the daily limits set by Twitter helped in the growth of Meta-owned rival service Threads, which crossed 100 million sign-ups within five days of launch.
