Nepal: Nepalese climber Mr. Kami Rita Sherpa has once again conquered the summit of Mount Everest, marking his 27th successful ascent. This achievement has reclaimed the record for the most summits of the world’s highest mountain, as confirmed by a government official and his hiking company.
At the age of 53, Mr. Rita successfully scaled the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) Mount Everest in the early morning hours of 17th May 2023. The Sherpa followed the traditional southeast ridge route, leading a Vietnamese climber along the journey. This remarkable achievement adds another chapter to Mr. Rita’s impressive mountaineering career and underscores his expertise as a guide on the world’s highest peak.

Since 2018, Mr. Rita had held the coveted title for the most ascents of Mount Everest, achieving this distinction on his 22nd climb. His remarkable feat surpassed the previous record shared by two other Sherpa climbers who have since retired. Mr. Kami Rita’s enduring dedication and unmatched climbing prowess have solidified his place in mountaineering history, setting a new standard of excellence at the world’s highest peak.
Having initially conquered Mount Everest in 1994, Mr. Kami Rita Sherpa has consistently ascended the renowned peak almost every year since, with exceptions in 2014, 2015, and 2020 due to temporary halts in climbing activities. However, on 14th May 2023, another accomplished climber, Mr. Pasang Dawa Sherpa, aged 46, equalled Mr. Kami Rita’s remarkable record by successfully summiting Everest for the 26th time.
