United States: Twitter has recently unveiled its own encrypted messaging service. Twitter has implemented end-to-end encryption for direct messages, ensuring that only the sender and recipient have access to the contents of private messages.

Mr. Elon Musk, the CEO, highlighted that with the new encryption feature, he would be unable to access users’ messages, emphasizing the high level of privacy. However, he cautioned that this is an early version and advised users to “try it, but don’t trust it yet.”

As of now, the encrypted messaging feature is limited to users who subscribe to Twitter Blue or possess a verified Twitter account, and it is not accessible to the general public. Additionally, media sharing within these encrypted messages is not yet supported, with users only able to send text and links.

Acknowledging its ongoing development, Twitter stated on its support site that it has not fully achieved its encryption objectives, indicating that further enhancements and refinements are still required.

“While messages themselves are encrypted, metadata (recipient, creation time, etc) are not, and neither is any linked content,” Twitter cited.

Early version of encrypted direct messages just launched.

Try it, but don’t trust it yet.

“If someone, for example, a malicious insider, or Twitter itself as a result of a compulsory legal process – were to compromise an encrypted conversation, neither the sender or receiver would know,” it added.
