North Korea claims testing of another nuclear-capable underwater attack drone

North Korea: According to reports from state media, North Korea has carried out a new test of an underwater attack drone capable of carrying nuclear weapons. This latest development has raised serious concerns among the global community, as it demonstrates North Korea’s increasing military prowess and potential threat to regional security.

After revealing its new underwater drone system named Haeil-1, meaning “tsunami” in Korea, designed for clandestine attacks in enemy waters, North Korea has reportedly tested another similar system known as Haeil-2. The recent test was conducted over a week after the Haeil-1 disclosure, and the drone is believed to be capable of carrying nuclear weapons. This development is raising concerns over North Korea’s increasing military capabilities and its potential threat to regional security.

While analysts are doubtful about the readiness of the underwater drone for actual deployment, they note that North Korea’s main intention is to showcase its range of weapons to the United States and South Korea. Both countries have been carrying out extensive military exercises in the region, prompting North Korea to demonstrate it’s military might.

The recent test of the nuclear-capable Haeil-2 underwater attack drone is seen as part of this strategy, highlighting North Korea’s growing military capabilities and its potential to pose a threat to regional security.

Amidst concerns about regional security, North Korea has continued to maintain its military momentum this year after carrying out a record number of weapons tests in 2022. The country has claimed that it needs to strengthen its defences due to the US-South Korean military exercises, which included the deployment of at least one US nuclear-capable B-52 strategic bomber this week. North Korea perceives these drills as rehearsals for a potential invasion and is therefore determined to bolster its military capabilities in response.
