Doha: At least six people have been confirmed dead after a Qatari military helicopter crashed into the country’s territorial waters following a reported technical malfunction, authorities said. One person remains missing, with search and rescue operations still underway.
According to Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, seven individuals were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the crash site, where specialised units continue efforts to locate the missing in challenging maritime conditions.
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Defence stated that the helicopter experienced a technical failure during what was described as a routine mission. The malfunction reportedly led to the aircraft losing control before crashing into the waters. Officials have not disclosed further details about the type of helicopter involved or the identities and nationalities of those on board.

Authorities stressed that there is currently no evidence to suggest that the crash was caused by hostile action. The clarification comes with heightened regional tensions, as Qatar and other Gulf states remain on alert following recent geopolitical developments.
The incident follows a period of increased instability in the region after the United States and Israel launched joint military strikes on Iran on February 28. Since then, Qatar has reportedly faced intermittent drone and missile threats, raising concerns over security in its airspace and surrounding waters.
Despite the tense backdrop, officials have maintained that the helicopter crash appears to be an isolated accident linked to technical issues rather than external interference. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the malfunction.
