India: India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 14.7 percent year-on-year to Rs 2,03,521 crore ($21.2 billion) in September 2026, supported by stronger domestic revenue and higher collections from imports.
Gross GST revenue increased from Rs 1,77,365 crore ($18.5 billion) in September 2025. After refunds were accounted for, net GST revenue rose 18.1 percent to Rs 1,76,520 crore ($18.4 billion), compared with Rs 1,49,517 crore ($15.6 billion) a year earlier.
Gross domestic GST revenue climbed 10.1 percent to Rs 1,37,996 crore ($14.4 billion) in September from Rs 1,25,334 crore ($13.1 billion) in the same month last year. Central GST collections increased to Rs 37,762 crore ($3.9 billion) from Rs 33,645 crore ($3.5 billion).
State GST revenue rose to Rs 45,363 crore ($4.7 billion) from Rs 41,836 crore ($4.4 billion). Integrated GST collected from domestic transactions reached Rs 54,871 crore ($5.7 billion), compared with Rs 49,853 crore ($5.2 billion) a year earlier.
GST collected on imports recorded a sharper increase. Import-related revenue rose 25.9 percent to Rs 65,525 crore ($6.8 billion) from Rs 52,031 crore ($5.4 billion) in September 2025.

Total GST refunds fell 3 percent year-on-year to Rs 27,001 crore ($2.8 billion) in September from Rs 27,848 crore ($2.9 billion) a year earlier. Domestic refunds declined 13.5 percent to Rs 13,504 crore ($1.4 billion), while refunds linked to exports through ICEGATE increased 10.2 percent to Rs 13,497 crore ($1.4 billion).
Net domestic GST revenue rose 13.5 percent to Rs 1,24,491 crore ($13.0 billion). Net customs GST revenue increased 30.8 percent to Rs 52,028 crore ($5.4 billion), reflecting stronger collections from imported goods.
For the first six months of the 2026-27 financial year, gross GST collections increased 11.6 percent to Rs 12,46,278 crore ($129.9 billion), compared with Rs 11,17,088 crore ($116.4 billion) during the corresponding period of 2025-26.
Net GST revenue for April-September rose 10.4 percent to Rs 10,66,116 crore ($111.1 billion), from Rs 9,65,455 crore ($100.6 billion) a year earlier. Post-settlement SGST revenue of states and Union Territories also increased 14 percent in September to Rs 92,075 crore ($9.6 billion), compared with Rs 80,962 crore ($8.4 billion).
Among major states, Maharashtra recorded GST revenue of Rs 29,986 crore ($3.1 billion), up 15 percent year-on-year. Karnataka’s collections rose 16 percent to Rs 13,884 crore ($1.4 billion), while Gujarat posted a 17 percent increase to Rs 12,222 crore ($1.3 billion). Uttar Pradesh recorded an 18 percent rise in GST collections to Rs 8,882 crore ($925 million).
