Syria: Powerful explosions at a weapons depot near Aleppo in northern Syria injured at least four people, with authorities urging residents to remain away from the area as emergency teams responded to the incident.
The blasts occurred at a Syrian army site near the town of al-Eis, south of Aleppo. The cause of the explosions was not immediately known. Faisal Mohammad Ali, head of civil defence operations in Aleppo, stated that the rescuers had evacuated four injured people from the site.
Emergency crews, including ambulances and fire trucks, were sent to the location as a series of explosions continued following the initial blast.

Authorities subsequently increased emergency measures around the site. Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib urged residents to stay indoors temporarily, stating hospitals, ambulance services and emergency teams had been placed on full alert.
Aleppo’s Internal Security Command also announced the closure of roads leading to the site, citing the need to protect civilians and facilitate emergency operations. Residents in parts of Aleppo reported seeing large flames following the blasts. A resident of the Hamdaniyeh neighbourhood remarked that a huge explosion was heard before large flames became visible in the distance.
The incident comes with a series of explosions at military and weapons-related sites in Syria in recent weeks. An explosion of unknown origin at a military site in the eastern province of Deir Az Zor killed 11 people.
Earlier this month, a blast at a Ministry of Defence weapons depot in Idlib province killed 14 people and injured 11 others. Five people were also killed more than a week earlier when a vehicle carrying munitions exploded in the same area.
The latest blast adds to ongoing security concerns as Syria continues its transition following more than a decade of civil war and the fall of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in late 2024.
